Chronology of cameras Ansco
GAF means General Aniline & Film. AGFA stands for Actien GesellSchaft für Anilin Fabrikation. Aniline is a highly toxic derivative of benzene used in dye production. Agfa was a German chemical manufacturer. In diversifying, AGFA acquired a photography-related division. In the USA, Agfa acquired Ansco, a camera manufacturer. Agfa Ansco later became Ansco before becoming GAF, aligning more closely with the original group name.
It's common to find many Agfa cameras under the Ansco brand. However, this Autoset deviates from this pattern. It was manufactured in Japan, and McKeown attributes its lineage to Minolta, which is entirely plausible due to its overall design and especially the name of its lens. Rokkor is, in fact, the name of Minolta lenses.
The sensitivity setting is adjusted using a side dial with a display on the front, directly affecting the adjacent light meter.
